Google Slides' strengths

Where Google Slides is better

Google Slides is the default deck tool for a lot of teams, for good reasons.

  • Free-form editing. Put anything anywhere on a slide, at any size. Cue has no free-form canvas, by design: you ask for a change, or edit the text and the slide order.
  • Editing together. Your team can work on the same deck at the same time. Cue has roles from viewer to owner and a version for every edit, which is less.
  • Already in your Workspace. If your company runs on Google Workspace, Slides is already there, with nothing new to buy or roll out. Gemini in Slides is included in Workspace Business and Enterprise plans and in Google AI Pro.
  • Gemini, with your Drive files. Gemini writes a deck from a prompt, lets you approve the outline first, uses files from your Drive as sources and can match the style of an existing deck. When we checked, it worked in English and on desktop only.

Cue's focus

Where Cue is different

Google Slides is a general deck editor. Cue is built for one job: the review you present every cycle, with new numbers, to people on their own screens.

  • The next cycle in one click

Start next review copies last cycle's deck, reads every bound number again from its source and writes a What changed slide that puts each number next to last cycle's. Story checks flag any slide whose words the new numbers no longer support. Google Slides doesn't have this built in.

  • Numbers from more than a sheet

Slides can link charts to Google Sheets. Cue binds a number, chart or table to a Google Sheet too, or to Stripe, Amplitude, PostHog, HubSpot, Jira, a CSV, a JSON URL or any MCP server. Sources refresh every hour or every day, and publishing keeps a snapshot, so last month's review still shows last month's numbers.

  • A follow link instead of a screen share

People on the call open the follow link, and the real slides move with yours on their own screens, builds included, at full resolution. They need no account and no app.

  • Each follower picks a language

Followers choose one of 30 languages and read the same slide, translated, in step with you. Numbers come in their format, and Arabic and Hebrew read right to left.

  • Polls and reactions, as well as Q&A

Slides has audience Q&A in its presenter view. In Cue's follow link, followers also vote in polls you open from your remote, and their reactions float up on the big screen. Questions wait for you or a moderator to let them through.

  • Present from your phone

Scan the QR code on Cue's start screen and your phone becomes the remote: next and back, speaker notes, a timer against your time budget and a preview of what's next.

  • Work on decks from Claude or ChatGPT

Gemini works inside Slides. Add Cue's MCP server to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, and your agent can create decks, edit slides, bind data and start the next review, acting as you with your role.

  • A brand kit the renderer enforces

Cue reads your website's colors, fonts and logo into a kit. Every slide takes its colors and fonts from the kit, and every color pairing has to pass a contrast check, so a deck can't drift off brand, whoever edits it.

Together

Using both

Connect Google Drive & Sheets in Cue and pick a Google Slides deck in Google's picker. Cue redraws every slide in your brand kit as slides you can edit, bind to live data and present, and tells you what didn't carry over, like animations and video. Cue sees only the files you pick, never the rest of your Drive.

If your numbers live in Google Sheets, keep them there: bind slides to the sheet, and Cue reads it again on a schedule and every time you start the next review.

Any Cue deck downloads as an editable PowerPoint file, with real text, tables and charts, or as a PDF.

The short answer

Which should you pick?

Pick Google Slides for decks you want to design freely and edit together, above all one-off decks, when your company already runs on Google Workspace.

Pick Cue for the review you present every week, month or quarter: numbers read again from Sheets, Stripe, Amplitude or Jira, a What changed slide written for you, and people following on their own screens, in their own language.

Cue is free during early access. Later, Team will be €15 per seat per month, and viewers and commenters are free. See pricing.

Questions

Cue and Google Slides, asked often

More in all questions.

Can I bring my Google Slides decks to Cue?

Yes. Connect Google Drive & Sheets, pick the deck in Google's picker, and Cue imports it as slides in your brand kit that you can edit, bind to live data and present. It lists what didn't carry over, like animations and video.

Can Cue read numbers from Google Sheets?

Yes. Bind a number, chart or table to a Google Sheet. Sources can refresh every hour or every day, and you can get an email when a number moves past a threshold you set.

What can Cue see in my Google account?

Signing in with Google shares your name, email address and picture. The Google Drive & Sheets connector is optional and reads only the files you pick in Google's picker (the drive.file permission), never the rest of your Drive. Cue uses Google data only for the features you use, under Google's Limited Use requirements.

What does Cue cost?

Cue is free during early access, with every feature included. Later, a Free plan holds up to 3 decks, and Team will be €15 per seat per month. Seats are for people who edit: viewers and commenters are free. See pricing.
