PowerPoint's strengths
Where PowerPoint is better
PowerPoint is the standard for decks, and for a lot of work it's the better tool.
- The editor. You control every element on every slide. Cue has no free-form canvas, by design: you ask for a change, or edit the text and the slide order.
- Enterprise templates and brand kits. PowerPoint keeps decks on brand with your company's templates, and Copilot uses enterprise templates and brand kits when it builds a deck.
- Copilot Agent Mode. Copilot creates, restructures, rewrites and translates whole decks by chat, inside PowerPoint.
- The file everyone opens. A .pptx is what people expect when they ask for the deck, and for many teams PowerPoint is already installed and paid for.
- Presenting in Microsoft's tools. If your meetings run in Teams, PowerPoint Live works there. Live polls with Microsoft Forms are available on Business and Education plans.
Cue's focus
Where Cue is different
PowerPoint is a general deck editor. Cue is built for one job: the review you present every cycle, with new numbers, to people on their own screens.
-
The next cycle in one click
Start next review copies last cycle's deck, reads every bound number again from its source and writes a What changed slide that puts each number next to last cycle's. Story checks flag any slide whose words the new numbers no longer support. PowerPoint doesn't have this built in.
-
Numbers from the tools they live in
PowerPoint can link charts to Excel. Cue binds a number, chart or table to Stripe, Amplitude, PostHog, HubSpot, Jira, a Google Sheet, a CSV, a JSON URL or any MCP server. Sources refresh every hour or every day, and publishing keeps a snapshot, so last month's review still shows last month's numbers.
-
A follow link for any call
PowerPoint Live works inside Teams. Cue's follow link works wherever you meet: people open it, and the real slides move with yours on their own screens, builds included, at full resolution. They need no account and no app.
-
Each follower picks a language
Followers choose one of 30 languages and read the same slide, translated, in step with you, with numbers in their format and Arabic and Hebrew right to left. PowerPoint has translated subtitles; its per-viewer follow-along has been retired, according to a third-party report.
-
Polls, Q&A and reactions on every plan
Open a poll from your remote and the results fill in on the big screen as people vote. Followers ask and upvote questions, which you or a moderator let through, and send reactions. It's all in the follow link, on Cue's Free plan too.
-
Present from your phone
Scan the QR code on Cue's start screen and your phone becomes the remote: next and back, speaker notes, a timer against your time budget and a preview of what's next. Or stay on the laptop, with presenter view in a second window.
-
Work on decks from Claude or ChatGPT
Copilot works inside PowerPoint, and we found no official PowerPoint MCP server from Microsoft. Add Cue's MCP server to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, and your agent can create decks, edit slides, bind data and start the next review, acting as you with your role.
-
A brand kit the renderer enforces
Cue reads your website's colors, fonts and logo into a kit. Every slide takes its colors and fonts from the kit, and every color pairing has to pass a contrast check, so a deck can't drift off brand, whoever edits it.
Together
Using both
Import a .pptx, up to 20 MB and 60 slides, and Cue redraws every slide in your brand kit as slides you can edit, bind to live data and present. It tells you what didn't carry over, like animations and video.
Any Cue deck downloads as an editable PowerPoint file, with real text, tables and charts, or as a PDF, so a review can go back to PowerPoint for anyone who needs it there.
A sensible split: build one-off and heavily designed decks in PowerPoint, and run the review you present every cycle in Cue.
The short answer
Which should you pick?
Pick PowerPoint when you need full control of every slide, your company's templates live there, and your meetings run in Teams.
Pick Cue for the review you present every week, month or quarter: numbers read again from Stripe, Amplitude, Jira or a Google Sheet, a What changed slide written for you, and people following a link in their own language.
Cue is free during early access. Later, Team will be €15 per seat per month, and viewers and commenters are free. See pricing.
Can I import my PowerPoint decks?
Yes. Import a .pptx up to 20 MB and 60 slides, from PowerPoint, Keynote or Gamma. Cue redraws every slide in your brand kit, so the deck takes your kit's colors and fonts, and it lists what didn't carry over, like animations and video.
Can I get a deck back out as PowerPoint?
Yes. Any deck downloads as an editable PowerPoint file, with real text, tables and charts, or as a PDF.
Do the people I present to need Teams or an account?
No. Anyone with a follow link or a share link can open it without an account or an app.
Can an AI assistant edit Cue decks?
Yes. Add https://cuedecks.app/mcp as a connector in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client and sign in to Cue. Your AI can then create and edit decks, bind data and start the next review, acting as you with your role. Every change it makes is a version you can restore.
